Scott Parker insists Fulham won’t convince Ryan Babel to stay with the club

Fulham manager Scott Parker has said that he understands the situation of Ryan Babel and the Dutchman would be permitted to make a decision regarding his future in the summer. The Netherlands international joined the Cottagers on a short-term loan from Besiktas, but he is expected to be available on a free transfer this summer with the Istanbul outfit deciding against extending his contract.

Amidst this, he has already been linked with West Ham United and Newcastle United in the Premier League and Parker admits that the attacker may not fancy dropping to the Championship with his international prospects on the line, he said: “I totally understand Ryan Babel. He’s probably in a similar situation to the one I was in at West Ham. I got relegated at West Ham and was in the fold for England at that time. He has been fantastic for us and I think Ryan stated himself that his next move will depend on offers. I can totally understand his position and of course I will not be holding him back in any way.”

Babel has been one of the bright sparks for the Cottagers during the backend of the campaign and he has contributed four goals and three assists from the 13 league appearances. Despite his best efforts, the west London side have already been confined to relegation from the Premier League but they have the chance to end the campaign on a high.

Fulham are currently on a two-match winning run after getting the better of Everton and Bournemouth in a comfortable fashion and they are now scheduled to host Cardiff City this weekend. The match could have a huge impact on the relegation tussle, considering the Bluebirds need a victory to close the gap on 17th-placed Brighton & Hove Albion. Neil Warnock’s side are currently three points behind Brighton, but with an inferior goal difference.
