Everton striker Cenk Tosun has stressed that teammate Day Klaassen has now ambition of heading to Besiktas during the ongoing transfer window. The Dutchman has been linked with a potential move away from Goodison Park after an unfruitful first season but Tosun has dismissed the prospect of him making the move to Istanbul.
Speaking to Turkish outlet Sabah, Tosun confirmed that he had spoken to Klaassen regarding the same but the response was negative, he said: “Klaassen is a very good football player and I asked him if he would come to Besiktas. But he replied ‘I do not think Turkey.’ The subject was closed from the start.”
Premier League side Everton have reportedly made contact with the representative of Oguzhan Ozyakup regarding a possible move to Goodison Park. The Turkey international has just two months left on his contract with Besiktas but the Black Eagles are hoping to extend his contract with the promise of a buy-out clause.
According to Fotomac, the Toffees have made an initial approach to the player’s representative as they seek to monitor the developments of the former Arsenal man. The Merseyside outfit were initially hoping to prise the player away from Besiktas on a free transfer in the summer but the alleged interest from Borussia Dortmund appears to have changed the complexion of the story. Chelsea scout Eddie Newton has confirmed that the Blues had kept a keen interest Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Özyakup in the past, though he admits that the Turk is more suited to Arsenal’s style of play. Ozyakup had been tipped for a return to the Emirates during the winter transfer window, but the Gunners were only willing to pay half of Besiktas’ €12m valuation for the midfielder.
Speaking to Aksam, Newton rated the 25-year-old highly after watching the players in close quarters. He continued to praise the player’s composure with the ball at his feet, and believes he could be ideal signing for Arsene Wenger’s side, he said: “We followed him before. For me he will suit the Arsenal system. He’s technically strong, calm, and composed on the ball and also a good passer.”
Turkish giants Besiktas have reportedly identified Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck as a potential replacement for Cenk Tosun, who joined Everton earlier this month. Tosun joined the Merseyside outfit in a £27m deal, and the Istanbul outfit are now aiming to push through a potential replacement.
According to Aspor, Welbeck is the prime target on the club’s shortlist, and club president Fikret Orman is likely to open up negotiations with the Gunners over a proposed move. The England international began the campaign in fine fashion as he netted three goals prior to the first international break.
Turkish champions Besiktas are set for a fairy tale title parade on an open boat after they cruised to their 15th league title. The team is set for their final game of the season on Saturday but the celebrations are in earnest after they were confirmed winners.
The Super Lig Champs are taking the victory parade a notch higher as they sail up the River Bosphorus instead of the conventional open top bus ride. Fans followed them in hundreds of boats – a sight that is truly remarkable to behold. Continue reading
