BABEL: NETHERLANDS CAREER UNVEILED

Ryan Babel is a Suriname-born Netherlands international who scored two goals in four games for the Dutch team at the 2005 FIFA u-20 World Cup on home soil. Babel and the Netherlands reached the quarterfinals before they were knocked out by Nigeria. He made his senior team debut weeks later against hosts Romania as a first half substitute for flying winger Arjen Robben. Ryan Babel scored on his debut for the Netherlands, netting the second goal in a 2-0 win over the Romanians. The goal made him the youngest Dutch goalscorer for 68 years and the fourth-youngest goalscorer in the history of senior national team football in the country.

Babel made the Dutch squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament on German soil but he couldn’t make much impact due to a knee injury. The knee issue restricted him to just one appearance and that was as a second half substitute for Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the group stage clash with two-time champions Argentina. Marco Van Basten was in charge of the Dutch team to the tournament in Germany.

BABEL: DUTCH NATIONAL TEAM CAREER REVEALED

Galatasaray winger Ryan Babel is of Surinamese descent though he was born in the Netherlands. He played for the Netherland u-17, u-19, u-20, u-21 and u-23 teams.

Ryan Babel scored twice in six games for the Netherlands u-19 team between 2003 and 2004. He had previously scored an impressive three goals in six games for the Netherlands u-17 team between 2002 and 2003. Ryan Babel also scored two goals in four appearances for the Netherlands u-20 team between 2004 and 2005.
