LIVERPOOL FLOP WHO SCORED WINNER AGAINST UNITED NOW PLAYING IN TURKEY

Liverpool have had some stellar players over the years but there have also been some absolute stinkers and before Jurgen Klopp rocked up, there were some dreary years. Liverpool flop Ryan Babel might be best remembered at Anfield for his winner against Manchester United. However, his career has somewhat nosedived since and he finds himself plying his trade in the Turkish second division with Eyupspor. The 35-year-old made the move to the club this summer where he has made one appearance so far.

Babel first hit the headlines when he joined Liverpool in 2007 – 15 years ago – as a youngster from Ajax, where he had been touted for stardom. However, the striker failed to make much of an impact in front of goal despite ample playing time. Across three and a half seasons, the Dutchman scored 12 times in 91 appearances in the Premier League – but that did include one moment that endeared him to Liverpool fans forever.

In the early exchanges of the 2008/09 season, Babel came off the bench to score in the last minute at Anfield to hand the Merseyside outfit all three points. However, that would be just one of three league goals he would score that season. Despite that, Rafa Benitez – who was in charge at the time – led the Reds to second in the Premier League, runners-up to United. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres formed a deadly partnership while Dirk Kuyt played every single game.

Babel would stay at Anfield another year and a half before moving to Germany with Hoffenheim, again, failing to have an impact in front of goal before a short spell back at Ajax. Subsequent transfers to Kasimpasa, Al-Ain, Deportivo La Coruna and Besiktas would follow before a return to England after a shock move to Fulham, where he could not stop them from getting relegated.
