Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has indicated that he is unsure where his future may lie beyond the current campaign and he could yet stay put with the Eredivisie side for another season. The Netherlands international has already attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs but so far, Ajax have resisted the prospect of sanctioning his sale.
Meanwhile, De Jong has been frequently linked with Manchester City and Barcelona on an alternative basis over the past 12 months and when asked about the speculation, the midfielder highlighted that he does not pay any attention and would rather focus on the proceedings with his current employers, he added: “I don’t pay attention to it. I hear the stories but I just want to finish this season well. I try to be kind to everyone. I feel pressure to win but when I am on the pitch I don’t think: ‘Oh, I’m not playing well, the media is going to hammer me.’”
De Jong has recently been linked with a potential mid-season move to Manchester City with the club aiming to enhance their prospects of winning the Champions League this term. However, it appears that Ajax have no plans of considering a winter deal for the Dutch footballer and sporting director Marc Overmars has recently confirmed the same stance through the media. Ajax have made a strong start to the season with 12 wins from their 14 league matches and they are currently just two points behind table-toppers PSV Eindhoven.
