BABEL SCORES FIRST LEAGUE GOAL

Dutch forward Ryan Babel scored his first league goal of the season for Galatasaray as he helped the Europa League campaigners come from behind twice to beat CaykurRizesporwhen the two teams for the latest edition of their Turkish Super League clash on Sunday. Ryan Babel scored his first league goal of the season in his 19th appearance as Galatasaray came from a goal down on two occasions to beat their visitors 4-2 at the NEF Stadium in Istanbul.


Babel and Galatasaray have been unimpressive in the Turkish Super League this season after languishing in mid-table for the most part of this season till date.

For the home game with CaykurRizespor, Galatasaray went behind to the goal from GedsonFernandes via a stunning eighth minute free-kick. Galatasaray trailed until Dutch fullback Patrick Van Aanholt produced a long-range curler five minutes from the interval for the first of his brace during the game. The goal from the former Chelsea and Crystal Palace star ensured that the two teams went into the break with a goal each.

Four minutes after restart, Rizespor took the lead again through Tyler Boyd on the edge of the penalty arc. Galatasaray didn’t level proceedings until the last twenty minutes with Ryan Babel getting the second equaliser from the penalty spot in the 70th minute having come on as a substitute. It was his first goal of the season in the Turkish Super League this season after 19 attempts.

Galatasaray led for the first time in the game when Van Aanholt completed his brace three minutes from time before French striker BafetimbiGomis sealed the points for the hosts with the fourth goal in the eighth minute of added time. Rizespor had to finish the game with ten men after Fabricio Santos de Joshua was sent off in the 93rd minute.
